Hacienda NicholasLegend has it that this beautiful adobe hacienda was built in 1910 by Antonio Abelard Rodriguez for his bride, the exquisite Dona Isabella. Isabella and Antonio had been married for less than a year when one day, while riding in the mountains, Isabella and her entourage were attacked by agroup of marauding banditos. When she did not return that afternoon, a frantic Antonio raced off in search of his beloved. When he found her she was at death's door but he was able to nurse her back to health. The experience so scarred her, however, that she was terrified to venture outside of the confines of their small home for fear of what lay beyond. As a testament to his love, Antonio built the hacienda so that Isabella might find refuge behind its thick adobe walls and peace in the enclosed garden courtyard. There she and Antonio shared a life of perfect love and romance for many decades to follow. |
